What tech caught our eye recently:
Rick talks about car manufacturer Porsche getting into NFTs with its own NFT Universe. It's the latest in a long line of big names looking to build customer and brand loyalty.
Shaun brings up the news he read about San Francisco’s ‘killer robots’, which will be able to use lethal force if required. To contrast this unsettling news from America, in the UK mobile robots will deliver groceries to Leeds residents.
08.24 Tech news
Elon Musk expects a wireless brain chip developed by his company Neuralink to begin human clinical trials in six months. The first two human applications targeted by the device will be in restoring vision and enabling movement of muscles in people who cannot do so.
The UK government will make it illegal to encourage others to harm themselves online, and will fine social media companies that fail to remove such material. Social media companies will have to remove and limit users' exposure to material that deliberately encourages people to harm themselves.
A security researcher discovered that Eufy camera streams can be accessed remotely using the simple VLC player without encryption or authentication. This is an ongoing story, so if you're a Eufy owner, parent company Anker, keep your eyes peeled.
And finally, Bloomberg reports that Apple’s mixed reality headset, possibly due in 2023, will run on a platform called xrOS, which stands for extended reality. This is in place of RealityOS.
